Background
In June 2022, five climate experts and two citizens groups petitioned the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to phase out greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution to protect the nation (and the planet) from climate-induced drought, wildfire, food system/ecological collapse, and social disruption.
In September 2022, EPA denied the petition, claiming that the US is doing enough already about the climate crisis.
Directly challenging that absurdity, Petitioners then filed a Citizens’ Suit under §21 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), demanding that a federal district court order the Agency to do its job and protect our nation from the unreasonable risk presented by the enveloping climate crisis.
In a public address on March 27, CPR Initiative General Counsel Dan Galpern will discuss how the recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change renders this initiative even more critical. And also, what citizens can do now to fully engage.
